About Me (Cindy Arnold)
I didn’t have pets as a child. Then, in my early twenties, a lost kitten wandered into my life and I've had the joy of domestic animal companionship ever since. I've had 2 dogs but many more cats. My current feline roommate, Venus means everything to me, so I understand why your pets mean everything to you.
I’ve volunteered at the San Francisco Department of Animal Care and Control since 2004. This is the City's Open Door Animal Shelter. I also donate to many animal rights organizations. And while volunteering at the old shelter at 1500 Harrison Street I helped produce a fundraising project through which beloved departed animal friends are memorialized. An article I composed for that project is included in this site.
I've been a self-employed small business owner since 1981, providing cleaning and personal organizing services through which positive relationships developed with my clients. Many of them had pets they felt at ease entrusting to my care when “pet sitter” needs came around. Over time, care of much-loved pets has become the focus of my business.
I'm responsible, trustworthy and I deliver consistently good service. And I treat pets in my care as if they were my own, with lots of fond attention.
Endorsements
We have used Cindy Arnold and her cat sitting services for the past 6 years. She’s responsible and trustworthy, and she really enjoys our cats and chickens. We have 6 cats and 3 chickens. My sister and I travel several times a year. Our cats are all rescues and each has some type of neurological defect. Many of them have poor motor skills, and difficulty with their litter boxes. When she takes care of the chickens she arrives shortly after dawn, and returns shortly after dusk to secure them in their coop. Several times we have returned a day or two early and the litter boxes are clean, the floor has been swept, and food bowls have been washed – everything is always in good order. The cats received lots of attention and we’re very happy with her service.
Cindy is the BEST cat sitter we’ve ever had! We’ve worked with a lot of cat sitters in the past they have obviously done the bare minimum. Cindy spends time with the cats, even adjusts lighting and windows for them. We feel totally confident when we go out of town that our kitties are being well taken care of. And in addition to being an avid pet lover, she’s also a delightful human being who is communicative, consistent, and extremely easy to work with.
I was referred to Cindy Arnold and her service by a friend and longtime volunteer with Toni’s Kitty Rescue. I’ve been a kitten volunteer since 2002 and currently have four of my own cats, one requiring daily medication. I’ve been using Cindy/s service weekly for the past 6 months and she is conscientious and responsible. One of my cats is old and the others are not social and live outside part time. It gives me great peace of mind to not worry about my cats while away. I’m happy to recommend her to others.
I highly recommend Cindy Arnold to care for your pets. I first met Cindy as she was chosen to be my mentor at S.F. Department of Animal Care and Control (ACC) in 2008. During that time, I was being trained to work with unavailable dogs who had medical/behavior and other challenges. Cindy was extremely thorough in my training and covered everything from A-Z and then some. She always had the most acute and sensitive awareness of the animals’ needs, and would never hesitate to alert the ACC Veterinarian of any concerns. It was a privilege to be under her tutelage, and she continues to be a dedicated and devoted mentor and a good friend.
News Clipping
The San Francisco Department of Animal Care and Control (ACC), located at 1200 15th Street at Harrison Street, provides a variety of essential services to the people and animals of San Francisco. It takes in surrendered animals of all types, provides lost and found services, and administers a thriving adoption program. In addition, all animal control and anti-cruelty ordinances are enforced through ACC, including dog licensing. And these are just a few of the agency's responsibilities.
Since the department is funded through the city budget, it competes with dozens of other agencies for municipal money. The Friends of San Francisco Animal Care and Control (http://www.fsfacc.org) was established as a non-profit organization to raise additional funds for programs that enhance the comfort, welfare, and placement of the animals at the ACC shelter.
One of FSFACC's current endeavors is the “Now and Forever” Tile Project. Here's how it works. Folks purchase ceramic tiles and use them to memorialize their living or deceased pets. You can include the name of your dog or other animal and add a paw print or any creative design. The decorated tiles will be glazed, fired, and mounted on the walls of the dog park. The 6" by 6" tiles come in a variety of beautiful colors. The requested donation is $25 per tile.
The immediate goal of this project is the replacement of the grass in the dog park adjacent to the city shelter. This area is used for canine socialization play groups. These groups give adoptable dogs the chance to exercise and interact with other dogs, which helps them become calmer and more appealing to potential guardians. The dog park is also used by the “Give a Dog a Bone” program, which provides regular exercise for custody dogs – those being held pending court hearings.
As a result of this heavy use, the surface becomes a boggy mess during the rainy months and a dry, dirt-packed surface in warmer months. Installing state-of-the-art artificial turf with sanitary drainage is the perfect solution to these problems. Once this immediate goal is met, funds raised through the “Now and Forever” Tile Project can support other valuable ACC programs.
Volunteers from the ACC shelter are taking the project to a number of venues throughout the City. Look for our booth at the SPCAsponsored Doggone Fun Run on October 14 and at the ACC’s Pet Pride Day on October 29. Both events take place in Golden Gate Park.
Our pets have enriched our lives in countless ways. They've brought us laughter and comfort, companionship and unconditional love. The “Now and Forever” Tile Project is a chance to honor that wondrous and unique bond in a lasting way. More importantly, you’ll be offering your support to the wonderful animals housed at the city shelter, who deserve our love and care.
Cindy Arnold has been a volunteer dog walker at ACC since April 2004. When not traipsing around with her shelter charges, she’s a professional organizer and runs a business called Get It Together.
